To reach the smaller investor, financial services companies have been offering automated investment advisory services, or robo-advisers. Now, Charles Schwab has announced it will be offering a hybrid of automated and human investment advice and portfolio management. Recently, Reuters reported that the new service, called Schwab Intelligent Advisory, service will offer a customized financial plan, an automated portfolio, and advice from live certified financial planners.

It turns out that investors like both automated and human advice. A recent story in Investment News reported that a survey by the Financial Planning Association and Investopedia showed that while 75% of clients were very satisfied with the advice and services from traditional financial planners, 73% were just as happy with their automated investing platform.

Moreover, 39% of all respondents would prefer investment planning services from a combination of traditional and automated services. The report also found people still would rather use human advisers for tax planning, estate planning, elder-care planning, and health-care planning services.
It is certainly a new landscape for financial management companies.
