While the Gunpowder Plot of November 5, 1605 is often associated with Guy Fawkes, it was Robert Catesby who was the ringleader of the plot.  A prominent Catholic with substantial charisma, he managed to convince twelve other recusants to join him in blowing up the Parliament and royal family.  Once the plot was found out, he still attempted to start a Catholic uprising, dying in the attempt.
