Exploring the Woodford Configuration Tool

May 2, 2017   Microsoft Dynamics CRM
cecilie 300x225 Exploring the Woodford Configuration Tool

The Woodford configuration tool provides an administrative user the ability to take more control of users in the field that are accessing Dynamics 365 via a mobile device. There are three particular actions an administrator can use to either ensure users in the field have the most recent information or remove access when the scenario calls for it. In today’s blog, we’ll describe all three actions: Lock, Wipe, and Force Full Sync.

On the Security tab within Woodford, when the administrator selects the “Lock” checkbox (for a particular user on a single device), as shown below, that user will be prevented from logging in until the administrator returns and unchecks the box.

On the same Security tab, the Wipe function is similarly intuitive. , When the administrator selects the “Wipe” checkbox (for a particular user on a single device), the next time that user syncs their device, all of the data synced to the application will be removed, and the default entity selection will be displayed, as shown below. The user will have to re-enter their credentials to connect and pull the most recent mobile project published.

Finally, and again on the Security tab, a full sync can be forced for a particular user on a single device when the administrator selects the “Force Full Sync” checkbox. Instead of only syncing new or changed records with Dynamics 365, a full sync removes all of the data from the application, and then syncs everything back to the application, as shown below. This is commonly used if permissions have been reduced for a user (as they would have more records on their device then they should) or when publishing updates to a mobile project to ensure the users pull the most recent updates.
