For the second year in a row, TIBCO Software is named the top vendor in Dresner Advisory Services’ 2018 Advanced and Predictive Analytics Market Study. The annual study ranks 17 of the top advanced and predictive analytics vendors in the marketplace, scoring them on features, data preparation, tool usability, scalability, and integration functions.

The fifth annual market study, which is part of Dresner’s Wisdom of Crowds® research series, provides key insights and in-depth market analysis on trends within the rapidly growing industry of advanced and predictive analytics. Rankings are based on survey results from Dresner’s research community.

Historically, fundamental business intelligence technologies (dashboards, reporting, advanced visualization, and end-user self-service) top Dresner’s list of technologies and initiatives strategic to business intelligence. However, advanced and predictive analytics reaches an all-time high in importance to users and, for the first time, is considered critical to the majority to respondents.

According to the results of the study, both consideration of and actual use of advanced and predictive analytics has gained traction over the last several years. That being said, the advanced and predictive analytics space is forecasted to gain attention and user adoption based on high prioritization by respondents.

Respondents also expressed interest in a broad range of feature requirements. The most popular among these support traditional statistical methods: regression models, hierarchical clustering, and textbook statistical functions. Geospatial analysis, Bayesian methods, and automatic feature selection are the next most required features.

Dresner outlines a detailed set of nine usability benefits that support advanced and predictive activities and processes. Usability features generally address process or activity simplification and automation. The top three features were reported as “important” to more than 90 percent of respondents:

  • Access to advanced analytics for predictive and temporal analysis
  • Support for easy iteration
  • Simple process for continuous modification of models

In rating the vendors, TIBCO Software comes in first for their advanced and predictive analytics offerings, scoring highest for their analytical features and functions, tool usability features, scalability features, and data preparation.
